Until the end of 2007 there have been 30 children sponsored in the Miraj Red Light District where Timothy works, but providing for the needs of some children and omitting others has given Timothy several problems and caused disunity and tensions among the mothers. So, I am proposing that from 1/1/08 we conclude individual sponsorship (although those already involved will keep their named children) and the monies given will now support a wider programme, so all the Miraj community linked to BMS will benefit.
The sponsored children will continue to receive help as before but so will all the others with general projects such as – opening more water pumps, providing nourishing, regular meals for all the children who attend the Balwadi’s (preschool teaching for 3-5year olds, providing satchels and text books for school etc.
NEW FUND
If new sponsors wish to support the work at £6 per month, a new fund will be set up from January 2008 to provide resources for the training, support and development of skills for the girls in the Home of Hope when they leave at 16 years old. Without these opportunities many, if not all, of the girls will be drawn back into sex work with little chance of building on the excellent foundations laid down by the Home of Hope.
There are several training opportunities available, for example, tailoring, jewellery making, reception work and catering. The oldest girls at present in the Home of Hope are 12-14 years – so we need to set up this fund immediately in order to give them training opportunities within the next 2-4 years.
If you would like to support Timothy’s work in this way, please contact Sue Bartlett at twobartletts@excite.com and a Direct Debit can be set up.
Thankyou for your support, it will greatly encourage Timothy, and Ravi & Priti the Houseparents at the Home, as well as greatly blessing and benefitting the girls.
Sue Bartlett, Trustee for BMS
